MBBR Media For Advanced Wastewater Treatment
MBBR bio media — also called MBBR bio carriers or MBBR media — are small plastic shapes suspended in a wastewater treatment reactor. Their surface provides a home for beneficial microorganisms (biofilm) that break down organic pollutants, ammonia, and nitrogen.
Choosing the right media is the single most important design decision in any MBBR system. It directly determines treatment capacity, system stability, and long-term operating costs.

K1 MBBR Media
11 × 7 mm • 4 rooms 900 m²/m³ • 930,000 pcs/m³ The industry workhorse for municipal wastewater and standard RAS. Balanced surface area, reliable BOD and ammonia removal.

K2 MBBR Media
11 × 7 mm • 5 rooms 1000 m²/m³ • 990,000 pcs/m³ Highest surface area in the small-carrier class — ideal for compact tanks and nitrification-boosting upgrades.

K3 MBBR Media
25 × 10 mm • 19 rooms 650 m²/m³ • 118,000 pcs/m³ Large channels resist clogging from fats, oils and solids — the pick for food, beverage, dairy and pulp & paper wastewater.

K4 MBBR Media
25 × 10 mm • 38 rooms 800 m²/m³ • 118,000 pcs/m³ The middle ground for medium-load industrial effluent — open enough to resist clogging, dense enough for solid treatment.

K5 MBBR Media
25 × 4 mm • 64 rooms 1200 m²/m³ • 210,000 pcs/m³ High void ratio for high-load COD/BOD — chemical, pharmaceutical and landfill leachate under intense aeration.

How to Choose the Right MBBR Media
Every wastewater project is different. We manufacture a comprehensive range of biological carriers designed to support robust biofilm development. Select the optimal profile based on your specific organic loading rate (OLR), tank volume, and mixing energy requirements.
| Application | Recommended | Typical COD | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Municipal WWTP / STP | K1 | 200–800 mg/L | Industry standard — balanced surface area, reliable BOD and nitrogen removal |
| Small plants & RAS | K1 / K2 | < 300 mg/L | Compact carriers, high surface area for tighter tanks |
| Food, beverage, dairy, brewery | K3 | 1000–5000 mg/L | Large channels resist clogging from fats and solids |
| Medium industrial | K4 | 1000–4000 mg/L | Balance between open channels and high density |
| Chemical, pharma, leachate | K5 | 3000–10000+ mg/L | High void ratio for intense aeration under extreme load |
| Retrofits & capacity upgrades | Biochip | Varies | Highest capacity per m³ — expand treatment without construction |
FAQs
How long does MBBR media last?
High-quality virgin HDPE media lasts over 20 years in normal operation. UV exposure and aggressive chemicals are the main causes of wear — for most municipal and industrial applications, the media outlives the equipment around it.
What filling ratio should I use?
Typically 15–60% of the empty reactor volume, depending on media type and application. Higher fill ratios need more aeration to keep the media fluidized. Send us your tank size and we’ll calculate the right fill for your system — free.
What are the MOQ and lead time?
MOQ is 1 m³ (about one bulk bag) for standard media — enough for pilot tests and small projects. Volume pricing applies above that. We’ll confirm packaging and shipping cost with your quote.
Can you help me choose the right media?
Yes — send your wastewater type, COD/BOD load, flow rate and target effluent quality, and we’ll recommend the right media and filling ratio, usually within 24 hours.
Is your media made from recycled plastic?
No — 100% white virgin HDPE only. Recycled HDPE can contain impurities that weaken the media and shorten its life. Virgin material gives consistent density, stable fluidization and predictable performance.
Do you offer OEM / private label?
Yes — custom packaging, branding and product specifications are available for distributors and brands.
